Week three of Term 1 (Camp!)

In week 3 Room 2 set off on an adventure to Arthur's Pass! 
It was a fun-filled week that included lots of scenic hikes, hut building, cooking, sensory trails (and more). 
Some of the highlights in Room 2 were: 

  • "Seeing the massive waterfall at the end of The Devil's Punchbowl walk" 
  • "Being able to lead the walking group which was my camp goal" 
  • "Playing spotlight and the fun games like 'sneak up on bacon'"
  • "Going to a place I have never been to before and seeing new things"

    What a wonderful collection of memories! I hope everyone had a great rest over the weekend. I heard there were some super long walks, what were some of the other challenges you were faced with?

      Thanks for commenting on our blog! The most challenging part for me was the Devil's Punchbowl because it had so many steps! (I also think my backpack was a bit heavy).

      Hi Kerrie,
      Camp was the best, I definitely have heaps of memorises about camp. One of the most challenging things was getting to sleep at night because there was some chatterboxes. The devils punch ball was really challenging as well.

      I think one of the difficult challenges was the sensory trail, climbing
      over the obstacles and finding our way around blindfolded!

      One of the challenges for me was the hikes because the hikes had big steps and we had lots of bushes and challenges we had to walk through. Thank you for asking. I hope you had a good time with Alex this weekend.

      Yes it was a great memory, and the walks were good fun but,
      the challenge was the two hour walks! Camp
      was great, can´t wait for another camp,we all had wonderful
      time.

    we had to go on the really big walk

    One of the challenges was swimming in The Devils Punch-bowl because it was really cold and some people went right under.

    Hi its Sam from NBC.
    That was the longest walk I have ever done, have you done longer?
    We did a river crossing that was a challenge and we were on a rope blind folded. It was scary. We went in the plunge pool. It was the coldest pool. When we went in the river crossing we went in the river for a swim it was cold but nice.

    I love how you have a positive attitude on this awesome blog, i`m one of the people that went on the camp with all the awesome parents, your right the walks were hard and we were exhausted when we got home!

    The most challenging part for me was the devels punch becouse there was so many stars but when i got to the top there was a ginormous water fall

    Hi Kerrie,

    I really liked camp because all of the fun things we did like seeing the beautiful view at the Devil's Punch bowl and seeing the really cool waterfall but doing all of that hurts your legs because we walked up so meany stairs next time I would put more breaks in all the big walks.

    Yeah there were some nice memories.
    We drove up to this location and it had a beautiful view.
    Then after that we had to walk all the way back to camp.
    We saw lots of green. What did you do for camp?

    Wow what an awesome adventure camp was! I was super happy I was able to come along for the first day of the year 6 camp, it was lots of fun and I liked the games we played before the hike to the Devil's Punchbowl. Did you learn any news games and did I miss any good ones?

      Hi Mum,
      There was a new game that you sadly missed. We played it when we were going to go back to school It was a game that was just like sneak up on granny which is a game were you start at a wall and one person goes in front of them and you need to try and tag the person but you cant get caught running up to them and the granny has to turn around every 5 seconds!

    Thank you so much for having me on camp with you all again this year. I had so much fun and went to a place I had never been before. I did things I never thought I could do. I was very proud of you all. What was one thing you were proud you did?

      Sounds like you had a lot of fun with Dakota and everyone else on camp.
      I am a year 5 but I like that you were proud of yourself. Something I was proud of was how I handled my first ever camp. Hope to talk to you next time!

Weeks 8/9 Term 1

 Room 2 has been working hard in the lead-up to the Easter holidays!  Week eight:  In week eight we researched the history of our school to add detail to our reports. We were lucky enough to interview Ms Daines who had a lot of knowledge about NBC and its history.  We also took some time to read and explore the time capsule which was placed under the old school toilets in 1994. The end of term 1!

The end of term 1 was filled with fun!  We had an educational and interactive time learning about food and nutrition with Brittany from Foodstuffs. This began with some learning in the classroom about the importance of reading food labels.  It was then followed up with a trip to Pak'n'Save where we could use our knowledge in the real world.    We were lucky to have another special visitor who taught the class about rhythm and decibels. This interactive activity helped us to expand our musical knowledge.  This term room 2 has been working hard to secure their class reward. After a lot of effort and time showing the school virtues and seeking excellence in our learning- we reached our goal!  The students voted for a blanket fort and PJ afternoon- It was a super way to end a fantastic first term.
