Week one of Term 1
It has been a fun-filled and busy first week in Room 2!
The students began the week by colouring oars to go on the class waka to symbolise the whakatauki 'He waka eke noa' (We are all on this journey together).
We also came together with Room 1 for a scavenger hunt to get to know each other better and find out what we have been doing in our holidays.
With Waitangi weekend coming up we have been learning about the treaty and the subsequent New Zealand land wars. We focused on the battle at Ruapekapeka and wrote stories in our books from the point of view of a Māori warrior, British soldier, or Māori child that lived at the Pā. Come and visit Room 2 to check these out!
Below is an example from Emilee in year 5.
The Scavenger Hunt.Have a lovely long weekend- Haere rā!

Before we learnt about how they traded the green stone for guns and the. The British base was 80 metres away from the Maori who had an underground base.
