Week four of Term 1

Image
After a big week at camp, Room 2 started week four of school.  On Monday we were lucky enough to have a football training session. In this session we trained with a coach from Coastal Spirit who showed us different techniques and drills.  On Thursday we were treated to a music lesson with Mrs Moore. She taught us about ryhthm by using a fun and interactive game!  On Friday morning we joined junior classes for buddy reading. This was a great opportunity as a class to be leaders and support other learners.  We then enjoyed the school library where we were joined by Charlie the dog. Charlie listened to some stories and spent the afternoon in Room 2!  Some of the student's highlights were:  "Getting to try the Korean language for the first time" -Paige "I thought it was fun starting statistics" -Claudia  "Working at the library" -Lexi  "Walking Charlie around" -Aiden  "Learning Māori in handwriting" - Matias S Ka kite anō,  Miss Pownal...

In week 3 Room 2 set off on an adventure to Arthur's Pass!  It was a fun-filled week that included lots of scenic hikes, hut building, cooking, sensory trails (and more).  Some of the highlights in Room 2 were:  "Seeing the massive waterfall at the end of The Devil's Punchbowl walk"  "Being able to lead the walking group which was my camp goal"  "Playing spotlight and the fun games like 'sneak up on bacon'" "Going to a place I have never been to before and seeing new things" Below is a short video showing the year five and six camp highlights!  Ngā mihi,  Helena Pownall

Week two of Term 1

Room two had a great week two!  On Thursday we were lucky enough to have Zeb and Indi's Guineapig come and visit for the day.  Today we learned about how we can be environmentalists and use our red, green, and yellow bins correctly. Lesley from Eco Educate surprised us with facts about where our waste is ending up if we don't take care of it properly.  We finished the week by joining Room's nine and ten for a singing and P.E afternoon! Haere rā and have a lovely weekend,  Helena Pownall

Week one of Term 1

It has been a fun-filled and busy first week in Room 2!  The students began the week by colouring oars to go on the class waka to symbolise the whakatauki 'He waka eke noa' (We are all on this journey together).  We also came together with Room 1 for a scavenger hunt to get to know each other better and find out what we have been doing in our holidays.  With Waitangi weekend coming up we have been learning about the treaty and the subsequent New Zealand land wars. We focused on the battle at Ruapekapeka and wrote stories in our books from the point of view of a Māori warrior, British soldier, or Māori child that lived at the Pā. Come and visit Room 2 to check these out!  Below is an example from Emilee in year 5.     The Scavenger Hunt. Have a lovely long weekend- Haere rā!
