Self Portraits

Room 2 has been creating self-portraits as part of their Art Inquiry.  We learnt about the importance of the different lines on our face and how they make us who we are.  See which familiar faces you can spy in the slideshow!  Miss Pownall

Here's what happened in weeks three and four in Room 2:  Week 3:  For writing this week we were studying haikus. We were focusing on the nature around us and the Autumn leaves that have been falling. The class went out to the domain with their writing books to get inspiration and ideas. We played in the Autumn leaves and were visited by a friendly piwakawaka. You can check out the completed poetry on the student's individual blogs.  On Wednesday we put our best foot forward in the cross country. There was a lot of persistence shown by all of those that partook.  The year six students also continued with their Dancing like the Stars practice. They are working hard for their performance in week eight!  Week 4:  In week four we continued to work hard on 'The Mass' unit that we are focusing on in R.E.  The students shared their different ideas for how to learn the prayers at Mass.  The students were visited by 'Kids University' and learned abou...

It has been a fun start to Term 2!  Week One:  We started off week one with an introduction to poetry in writing and reading! We learned how to write limericks,  you can view these on the students' individual class blogs now.  In reading, we analysed the importance of punctuation in poetry and played punctuation matching card games.  The year six students also began dancing like the stars. They will be practicing weekly until their performance in week eight!  In mathematics, the students were learning about time as part of our measurement unit. They were able to get hands-on, creating their own clocks to support their learning.  On Friday the students enjoyed a show from Elgrego! The end of term 1!

Image
The end of term 1 was filled with fun!  We had an educational and interactive time learning about food and nutrition with Brittany from Foodstuffs. This began with some learning in the classroom about the importance of reading food labels.  It was then followed up with a trip to Pak'n'Save where we could use our knowledge in the real world.    We were lucky to have another special visitor who taught the class about rhythm and decibels. This interactive activity helped us to expand our musical knowledge.  This term room 2 has been working hard to secure their class reward. After a lot of effort and time showing the school virtues and seeking excellence in our learning- we reached our goal!  The students voted for a blanket fort and PJ afternoon- It was a super way to end a fantastic first term. Ngā mihi,  Helena Pownall  (P.S Keep an eye on your mailboxes for a surprise Room 2!)

Weeks 8/9 Term 1

Room 2 has been working hard in the lead-up to the Easter holidays!  Week eight:  In week eight we researched the history of our school to add detail to our reports. We were lucky enough to interview Ms Daines who had a lot of knowledge about NBC and its history.  We also took some time to read and explore the time capsule which was placed under the old school toilets in 1994. While we explored the time capsules, we took down notes in our books of important information to add to our reports.  Here are some of Room two's thoughts:  "I loved seeing all of the ways that NBC has changed" -Jacob  "It was cool to know what happened when other people were here and finding interesting dates" -Quinn  "It was cool seeing how NBC has changed and some of the connections we had to the people who wrote the time capsule" -Samuel  "It was interesting seeing what people in 1994 thought the future would be like" -Paige  "I enjoyed finding out the names o...
